A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.6 hit waters off westernmost Aceh province in Indonesia today. Soon after, a tsunami warning was issued in the province of Krabi among other areas on the south western coast of Thailand. We got a knock on our door and a few minutes later we were on the move.
Safety was found on a roof of a nearby hotel situated on a hill and from there we had a good view of the ocean and the streets below. But the threat of a tsunami wasn’t the only thing that got my heart ticking faster, great dark clouds soon covered the sky and thunder and lightning was right above us.
The tsunami warnings where later lifted and we were able to walk back to our guesthouse, but I’m keeping my backpack packed tonight, just in case..
