BOTTOMS UP

Breakfast today was a shot of wheatgrass juice and my lovely friend Mr coconut. I don’t think I’ll ever be sick of drinking coconut water. Mmmmm. Anyway, here is some nutritious facts about the not so tasty but really healthy wheatgrass juice.

20120508-102339.jpg

30mls of freshly squeezed wheatgrass juice is equivalent in nutritional value to 1kg of leafy green vegetables

Wheatgrass contains over 90 minerals, including high concentrations of the most alkaline minerals: potassium, calcium, magnesium and sodium

It contains the essential enzymes: Protease (assists in protein digestion), Cytochrome Oxidase (a powerful anti oxidant), Amylase (facilitates digestion), Lipase (a fat splitting enzyme),
Transhydrogenase (strengthens the heart muscle) & Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) (found in all body cells and is known for its ability to lessen the effect of radiation and slow cellular aging)

Just one teaspoon of Wheat Grass powder, weighing a mere 3.5 grams, is nutritionally equal to an entire spinach salad weighing a full 50 grams – it packs a punch!

Wheatgrass has more vitamin C than oranges and twice the vitamin A as carrots!

Wheat grass juice helps your body to build red blood cells which carry oxygen to every cell. By increasing the oxygenation the body you can help offset smog and carbon monoxide and increase your endurance during physical exercise.

It also contains 19 amino acids, the building blocks of protein.

The schedule is pretty much the same as previous days. Tomorrow is the daunting liver flush, not looking forward to that I must say.
The photos where taken yesterday morning, I skipped yoga class due to very hurting legs (due to previous yoga session) and took a walk along the beach. Never thought low tide during sunrise could look so beautiful.

CHI NEI TSANG

I’m not quite sure how to explain my abdominal massage experience. Its a kind of funny feeling having someone massaging your organs, it’s not uncomfortable in any way but you really feel things moving inside you. Here is a short explanation on what its about.

20120507-122736.jpg

Chi Nei Tsang literally means “working the energy of the internal organs” or “internal organs chi (energy) transformation.”

At the beginning CNT was used by monks in monasteries to help detoxify, strengthen and refine their bodies in order to maintain the high energy required to perform the highest levels of spiritual practices.

Chi Nei Tsang is the art of internal organs chi (energy) transformation. By working gently and directly on the abdominal organs it is possible to help release physical toxins from the body, clear emotional charges that are stored in the organs, and consequently unwind tensions that are manifesting in other parts of the body. This allows the body to return to its natural state of good health.

BREKKY

So this is my breakfast every morning. Let me tell you what it consists of.. Water kefir, fresh coconut water and a shot of Guto Kola. If you have any questions of this nutritious meal, keep on reading.

20120507-095652.jpg

Water kefir? This was a new one for me and the first thought was that they had given me wine by mistake, the kind of wine that is left in a glass in the morning after a party..
But no. Water kefir is a natural supplier of probiotics to our digestive tract. Probiotics refers to the healthy bacteria that usually feeds on the “bad” unhealthy bacteria in our stomach and intestines. Bacterial overgrowth can lead to many illnesses some of which include fungi, yeast infections, indigestion, obesity, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohn’s Disease, skin disorders, etc. By drinking water kefir you will bring balance to your internal microflora.

Gotu Kola is one of the most important rejuvanative herbs in Ayurvedic medicine. It promotes memory and a clear, calm state of mind. It also has strong blood purifying effects and is especially useful for skin problems like psoriasis and eczema.

Coconut water is the juice in the interior or endosperm of young coconut. The water is one of the nature’s most dehydrating drinks and is consumed worldwide for its nutritious and health benefiting properties.
The liquid is clear, sweet, sterile and composed of unique chemicals such as sugars, vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, enzymes, amino acids, cytokine, and phyto-hormones. Did I say that it tastes amazing?!

DAY 2

Good morning. So day 2 of my detox, I have now been living on liquids for 1 1/2 days, so far so good. I’m not feeling that hungry at all and no terrible detox symptoms yet. If anything I’m feeling relaxed and quite content with my life right now. Today’s schedule is almost the same as yesterday, but instead of a massage I will have a tummy massage, also called Chi Nei Tsang and a reflexology session after that. I also have the pleasure of spending some private time in a far infrared sauna this afternoon. I will tell you guys how that was later.

Now I’m about to enjoy a cup of ginger tea, this is a good way of starting your day during a detox or everyday really. Ginger is a good digestive stimulant and also helping your body to flush toxins from the GI tract. It has a rejuvenating and nourishing effect on the body.

THE WHY AND THE ANSWER

Why juice fast? Ok, there is plenty of information about this on the web that can explain it better than me so I’m keeping this short and simple.

The environment we live in is filling our body’s with bad things known as toxins. Food we eat, water we drink, the air we breath, the products we use to clean our homes or ourselves – you name it.. Toxins are all around us and toxins contribute to all kind of diseases. Medical research show us that Cancer, Asthma, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Alzheimer, Arthyritis, Diabetes, Chronic Fatigue Immune Deficiency Syndrome and various mental illnesses are linked to Toxins.

20120502-155222.jpg

And if the scare of deadly diseases is not pushing you in to do a detox maybe the following COMMON beneficial signs will help motivating you:

increased overall energy and stamina
a more upbeat and positive attitude to life
improved breathing
improved digestion
improved circulation
weight loss
improved skin quality
improved concentration
more motivated in life
ability to relax
reduction in headaches and stiff joints and muscles
less moodiness and depression
improved sleep quality
increased immunity
reduced allergy symptoms

20120502-155150.jpg

Here is the important information – The following people should not do a juice fast or strict detox program

Pregnant women
Breastfeeding women
Persons awaiting or recovering from major surgery
Persons with advanced chronic infections
Persons with advanced cancer, severe kidney or liver disease
Persons who are significantly underweight, are suffering from anorexia or bulimia
Persons suffering from mental illness, including schizophrenia and severe depression
Persons with diabetes

If you in anyway have concerns about you health I suggest you have a talk to your health practitioner before undergoing a longer cleanse. Every body is different and what works for me might not work for you.

SPRING CLEANING

20120503-070954.jpg

So yesterday I signed up for a seven day juice fast on the neighboring island Koh Samui. The real cleanse isn’t starting until Saturday but Im all ready preparing my body on what to come.

I know how hard it is to do a longer fast if you are at home with temptations around you and working hard every day, but I thought that I’ll post information regularly about my fasting here in Thailand so if you want to try it at home you can still get the advice from the trained professionals at my retreat.

Stay tuned for pre-detox advice!
